Event debrief: Children’s eye conditions for paediatricians

On 14 July 2016 Clinica London hosted the event ‘Children’s eye conditions for paediatricians’. Our paediatric ophthalmologist, Ashwin Reddy and Orthoptist Joe Mcquillan facilitated the event. We had 13 community paediatricians, pharmacists, optometrists and GPS in attendance. All of which have a particular interest in paediatrics.

Mr Ashwin Reddy discussed many of the red flags to watch for when examining children’s eyes. Some of the red flags included:

  • Retinoblastoma
  • Lazy eye
  • Retinopathy of prematurity
  • Orbital cellulitis
  • Tumours

Joe demonstrated how to examine vision in a child of various ages. Highlighted in this demonstration was:

  • The importance of visual behaviour
  • What vision test is most appropriate for what age
  • Developmental milestones of vision
  • Age appropriate vision
  • A squint classification refresher
  • The importance of detecting squint

Thank you Joe and Ashwin for such a successful and informative event!

Stay tuned for Clinica London’s next event!
