What is Oculoplastic Surgery?

Oculoplastic surgery is the treatment of conditions affecting the eyes and surrounding areas, including the eyelids, brow, cheek and the eyes themselves. It is sometimes called ophthalmic plastic or orbito-facial surgery. Oculoplastic surgery is done for both medical and aesthetic reasons. At Clinica London, our oculoplastic surgeons provide advice and treatment for many conditions, both medical and aesthetic.

Oculoplastic surgeons are trained ophthalmologists, sub-specialised in oculoplastic surgery. They therefore have an in depth knowledge of the eyes and eyelids and their function. All of our oculoplastic surgeons are members of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS).

Aesthetic surgery performed by oculoplastic surgeons includes:
Blepharoplasty for baggy lower eyelids and excess overhanging upper eyelid skin
Fillers for facial volume loss and tear trough hollows
Botulinum toxin A (eg. Botox®) for periorbital wrinkles and hypertrophied calf muscles

Some of the main medical conditions treated by oculoplastic surgeons include:
Eyelid cysts and tumours
Malpositions (eg. drooping eyelids)
Thyroid Eye Disease
Blepharospasm
Watering Eyes
