What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a revolutionary, non-invasive face and eye lift treatment. It effectively addresses ageing skin using ultrasound technology to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production to revitalise and lift the skin. Not only is it used around the eyes, cheeks and jowls, but also on the delicate neck and decolletage area to reduce wrinkles and tighten the skin by the production of the new collagen and elastin.

The ageing process makes it more difficult for the skin to produce collagen, creating sagging skin and an unwanted appearance. Ultherapy restores that lack of collagen and laxity by quickly boosting them deep in the skin, which comes with long-lasting results, offering a youthful glow.

When Should You See a Doctor / Do I Need the Ultherapy Treatment?

As Ultherapy is a cosmetic procedure, seeing a doctor is not medically necessary. However, at Clinica London the Ultherapy assessment is by the Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon, who is experienced in facial evaluation and well placed to provide the best advice. The same surgeon also carries out the treatments, along with the senior nurses. Ultherapy is non-invasive, micro-focused thermocoagulation of the deep dermis to biostimulate the patient’s own collagen and, hence, tighten and lift the tissue. It is an excellent option if you are unsatisfied with any ageing appearance on your skin.

Individuals with loose neck skin, jowling, chin sag, under-chin looseness, loose eye area, and chest wrinkles, all look forward to achieving a naturally gradual lift and defined look, resulting in a noticeably refreshed appearance.

If you are in London and seeking a non-invasive, scientifically proven method to lift and tighten your skin, Ultherapy at Clinica London is the ideal solution.

Treatment Benefits

The Ultherapy treatment has become the market-leading collagen booster, acclaimed as a gold standard for skin tightening and lifting. This renowned treatment is the only non-invasive lift cleared by the US FDA and certified in the CE mark in the EU. It comes with scientific backing, effectively jumpstarting fresh collagen and elastin production deep within the layers of the skin. It does not cause damage or redness to the overlying skin layers because each treatment is micro-focused with ultrasonic guidance and depth. Patients experience a naturally refreshed appearance, with skin texture and firmness enhancements. You can expect a speedy procedure, minimal downtime, and enduring results spanning two or more years.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results of Ultherapy treatment unfold progressively, with some patients observing an initial lift right after the procedure. Nevertheless, the most significant improvements become apparent over three to six months as fresh collagen steadily develops.

The effects can last over two years, with ongoing collagen production contributing to the skin’s youthful appearance. Touch-up treatments are available if you are looking for further improvements and conserving the benefits.

Ultherapy Treatment Overview

Ultherapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses micro-focused ultrasound imaging, allowing our consultants to analyse each patient’s skin and then treat at specific depths. The ultrasound is a guide to deliver micro points of the MFU-V energy into the deep layers of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production.

At Clinica London, our Consultant specialists and nurses undergo training to perform treatments such as Ultherapy, offering a personalised experience for our patients. We perform the treatment with a handheld device, ensuring no heat is applied to your skin’s surface. This eliminates any risks of redness or post-treatment discomfort.

Preparing For the Procedure

When you’ve decided to undergo an Ultherapy treatment, preparing is important to ensure the best results and a smooth experience.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  •          Arrive without face products applied to your face
  •          Avoid face treatments such as Dermal Fillers
  •          Avoid blood thinning medications

NOTE: A consultation with the consultant will provide detailed pre-procedure instructions tailored to the individual’s skin type and treatment areas.

During the Procedure

At Clinica London, Ultherapy treatment typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the areas being treated. We administer the Ultherapy procedure with topical local anaesthetic cream applied beforehand to numb the area of the face, neck, around the eyes or decolletage to be treated, together with light oral analgesia. You will be comfortably lying on a reclining couch, and a smooth applicator will deliver the ultrasound energy precisely with gel used on the skin to cool the area treated and act as energy coupling.

During the procedure, our consultants carefully monitor the applicator angle and the image of the skin layers seen on the Ulthera screen. This also displays the various vascular components of the skin. The Ultherapy device is adjusted to target specific energy points at different depths within the skin. Usually, in one session, two or three different depth treatment passes are done, according to the area and need.

  •          Shallow Depth: focuses on the superficial skin layers. This is best around the eyes and mouth
  •          Middle Depth: stimulates the deep dermis all over the face, jowls, mandible, under neck, neck and decolletage
  •          Deepest Depth: replicates the effects of a surgical facelift when used to treat the lower face and under mandible to upper neck areas

Does the Treatment Hurt?

At Clinica London, our primary focus is achieving successful outcomes with the utmost care. Your comfort is our priority.

While discomfort during Ultherapy can vary from person to person, it’s important to note that any discomfort is fleeting and occurs only during the delivery of the ultrasound energy. As a result, you will feel a warming sensation during your treatment, which signifies the beginning of the collagen-building process.

Some patients have compared this feeling to a mild mosquito bite or zap on the skin, which is not considered painful. To alleviate any mild discomfort, we provide light painkillers to take and apply anaesthetic cream 45 minutes before the skin tightening and elevating treatment.

Recovery & Aftercare

The Ultra-imaging that backs Ultherapy has been used in medicine for almost 50 years. It is a non-invasive treatment with minimal downtime, and patients can typically return to their regular activities immediately following the treatment. In addition, we ensure patients receive detailed aftercare instructions to optimise treatment outcomes.

Risk & Side Effects

Ultherapy is safe, with minimal side effects. Though rare, it’s important to note that all treatments come with some risks.

Here are a few possible side effects you may experience:

  •          Burning sensation
  •          Bruising
  •          Numbness and tingling
  •          Swelling
  •          Scarring   - exceedingly rare
  •          Muscle weakness – exceedingly rare

These effects are mild and transient. Ultherapy has been cleared by the FDA and is performed by our qualified Consultants, ensuring patient safety and efficacy of the treatment.

As you age, your body naturally produces less collagen. This makes ultrasound skin tightening an excellent choice for older individuals with noticeable skin sagging in the face, chin, neck and decolletage.

While it’s important to note that Ultherapy doesn’t replace surgical procedures, it’s an ideal option if you’re looking for a non-invasive treatment to address early signs of ageing or to extend the benefits of previous cosmetic surgeries.

Ultherapy is suitable for patients between the ages of 30 and 80. Still, the most significant improvements are typically seen in those aged 40 to 65, significantly when tightening the skin around the jawline, neck, and décolletage. Miss Olver specialises in using Ultherapy on the face and jowls, including above the eyes.

Although this is a safe treatment, it may be unsuitable for some. Remember to book a consultation to learn if Ultherapy is right for you.

Ultherapy results appear gradually, with some seeing an initial lift right after the surgery. The most noticeable improvements unfold in three to six months as new collagen firms and lifts the skin. These effects can last over two years, thanks to ongoing collagen production.

Annual touch-up sessions can help maintain the results.

Yes, Ultherapy is suitable for all skin types and tones. The treatment targets the underlying layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production without affecting the surface. The effects are not influenced by the amount of pigmentation in the skin.

Men can significantly benefit from Ultherapy as they also experience skin laxity and signs of ageing. The treatment offers a non-surgical option to lift and tighten the skin, improving appearance for a sleeker, more defined jawline and tighter skin on the neck under the chin. At Clinica London there are equally as many men as women who choose to undergo Ultherapy Treatment as a non-invasive eye, face, jowl and neck lift.
