Skin changes such as wrinkles, pigmented patches and sagging skin are amongst the most visible signs of ageing. At Clinica London the nurses provide advice and treatments including Intraceutical facials, Dermaroller, Clarisonic brush and Heliocare. It is important to look after your skin.
Skin can be divided into three main layers:
Skin contains connective tissue with collagen fibres to give support and elastin fibres to provide strength and flexibility, which is lost with age. Ageing skin changes are related to many contributing factors such as genetic predisposition, diet, sun exposure and smoking. The greatest single factor is sun exposure, clearly seen when comparing areas of the body that are regularly exposed to the sun with areas that are covered.
As most skin changes are related to sun exposure:
Aged skin has wrinkles, textural alterations, dyspigmentation, yellowing, thinning and mottling that can make it look tired and dull. A healthy Mediterranean diet and quitting smoking all help maintain healthy skin. Good face creams and face care with exfoliation can do a lot to help skin quality. Intraceuticals: hyperbaric oxygen and hyaluronic acid facial infusion, can greatly rejuvenate the face, especially the peri-orbital area.
Before considering any treatment an ophthalmic examination is performed by the oculoplastic surgeon to ensure there are no eyelid nor eye surface problems. The skin type (Fitzpatrick skin number) is taken into account when planning facial rejuvenation.
At Clinica London we take photographs to document the face, eyelids, skin quality and appearance, and then discuss the options with the patient. It is important to discuss first what the patient considers a problem and which facial areas to treat, as well as giving general advice and feedback on diet, smoking and skin care. It is helpful to bring photographs from a younger age.
A combined approach is often needed for periocular and facial skin rejuvenation. Daily sunscreen, specific topical prescription retinal cream or a chemical peel together with a blepharoplasty, filler or other cosmetic injections are often considered in the approach to treatment.
Ageing skin can be treated medically. However, if the patient is looking for a less invasive solution, then upon assessment, at Clinica London we offer dermal fillers or Ultherapy.
If you are considering Ultherapy treatment you can see our prices for treatment and consultation.
