Diabetes and Cataracts – Mr Jaheed Khan
Mr Jaheed Khan also looks after patients who have cataract surgery and diabetes. Diabetes can affect the retina and make the cataract onset more likely at a younger age. Good control of diabetes is essential to help reduce the risk of retinopathy and cataracts, and controlling any associated hypertension will also help you to maintain good eye health.
If you are over the age of 55 and have diabetes, Mr Jaheed Khan will check your retina. First of all, you will see one of our nurses, either Francis Astillo or Chloe Russell. The nurse will assess your visual acuity while you are wearing glasses to test your distance and near vision, and will do the necessary diagnostic tests of your retina.
Mr Jaheed Khan will then see you for consultation. He will examine your retina in more detail to determine how much of your visual problem is caused by the cataract and how much is due to changes in your retina as a result of diabetic retinopathy.
He will then recommend cataract surgery and/or laser surgery. Laser surgery on the retina is currently not done here at Clinica London, but Mr Khan will carry out the procedure at The London Clinic, and you would then have follow-up appointments at Clinica London. If after surgery you develop a second cataract – which is called posterior capsule thickening – it can be treated by laser procedure at Clinica London.
If you are considering Cataracts treatment you can see our prices for treatment and consultation.
