Surgical and non-surgical options for fixing tired looking eyes

If your upper eyelids are heavy and resting on the upper lid lashes, you may want to seriously consider blepharoplasty for tired looking eyes. We call eyelid surgery upper lid blepharoplasty, and we do it through a little incision hidden in the skin crease.
We can do blepharoplasty for functional and for aesthetic reasons. Usually, the patient is in their 50s to 70s and can be male or female. We carry out upper lid blepharoplasty under local anaesthetic here at Clinica London as a day case. However, before you get to your surgery, we have to have a thorough assessment to make sure that you are suitable for the surgery and that other – non-medical – treatments do not provide a better option.
Increasingly as an oculoplastic surgeon, I am looking at the patient with both the medical and surgical view. People have busy lives; they are often hard-working, may have children, family, husbands, wives, dependents and they cannot afford the time to come in and have surgery. For them, non surgical treatment around the eyes may be better. Non-surgical approaches, such as Botulinum toxin, to help lift the eyebrows and left the skin off the eyes. We also recommend fillers to help lift the outer part of the brow and delineate better the periorbital area. We can also use Hyaluronic acid fillers in the temples, in the upper lateral brow, and in the superior sulcus which is the deep area between the eyelid show and the eyebrow
There are always options as to whether to have surgical blepharoplasty or non surgical periorbital treatment such as Botulinum toxin and fillers. Ultherapy is often used in conjunction with Botox and fillers around the eyes to help improve the quality of the skin, lift the eyebrows both upwards and up and outwards, tightening and toning the area as well as lifting. Ultherapy stimulates the patient’s collagen in the deep dermis to tighten, lift and look more youthful.
At Clinica London I provide a full facial and periorbital aesthetic assessment where I look at the skin for volume and the underlying bony skeleton. I provide aesthetic skin advice. I provide the treatments for tightening, elevating, lifting and improving volume in the face and around the eyes. Treatments are targeted at the patient’s individual needs and often involves a combined approach using different modalities.
