What is your experience as an oculoplastic ophthalmologist?

My name is Jane Olver and I trained as an ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital. I was there for 9 years and during that time I did all my general ophthalmology training and my specialist training and I did two fellowships. That meant I did a special attachment for learning eye lids oculoplastics, lacrimal orbits and I also did children’s eyes.
That helped me a lot with the eyelids because a lot of people who have problems with their eyes also have problems with moving their eyes. Everything I specialised on was surrounding the eye. When I became a consultant in 1994, I was initially at the Western Eye Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital and then 18 months later I moved from Hillingdon to the Charing Cross Hospital where I led the oculoplastic service.
I developed and trained a lot of residents and fellows myself and I was very fortunate to have wonderful patients with a very wide range of conditions. This kept my skills stretched and challenged. We worked often in a team there, so I would work with Head and Neck people and ENT.
Then gradually over the years I decided I wanted to do high class private ophthalmology and I saw friends of mine in Europe and in States who are running small eye clinics. And I gradually formed the idea and model of Clinica London.
So in 2011 I opened our doors just as a single consultant doing general ophthalmology and oculoplastics and now we are doing the other subspecialties as well – cataract, glaucoma, retina and we also have oculoplastics on the aesthetic side, both medical and surgical. So we are providing a much wider menu of services here.

Ms Jane Olver is the founder of Clinica London and a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon. Her special expertise is in oculoplastic and cosmetic eye surgery including eyelids and lacrimal surgery. She is specialised in endoscopic lacrimal surgery for watering eyes in adults and children. She has over 20 years’ experience in treating people with eye problems just like you, and has published extensively in scientific journals about Ophthalmology and Lacrimal Surgery and is the author of the books “Ophthalmology at a Glance” and “Colour Atlas of Lacrimal Surgery”. At Clinica London, she is responsible for the Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery part, as well as patients with eye, eyelid and tear duct problems, and acute eye problems.
